Dana Altman, the winningest coach in Oregon men’s basketball history, is retiring after 16 seasons with the Ducks and nearly four decades as a Division I head coach, the school announced Wednesday.

Altman, 68, went 382-182 at Oregon from the 2010-11 season through 2025-26. He led the Ducks to nine NCAA Tournaments and the 2017 Final Four and won four Pac-12 regular-season titles and four Pac-12 Tournament titles.

Over 37 seasons as a Division I head coach, Altman went 792-425, the 15th-most wins in NCAA history. In a statement, he called stepping away difficult and truly painful and said leaving Creighton for Oregon was the only other decision in his career that was as hard.

Assistant coach Tony Stubblefield will lead the program on an interim basis. Stubblefield has had two stints as an Altman assistant at Oregon, with a run as head coach at DePaul from 2021 to 2024 in between.

The announcement comes after a difficult stretch for the program. Oregon went 12-20 last season and lost nine players to the transfer portal and three to graduation during the offseason.
