WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man died and six other people, three of them children, were taken to a hospital after a house fire in Northwest Washington, D.C., early Sunday.

Fire and EMS crews were called shortly before 5 a.m. to the 600 block of Geranium Street, where they found smoke and fire coming from the front and rear of a two-story home.

After the fire was put out, a search of the home turned up a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three of the injured, a man, a woman and a boy, were taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. A woman and two more children were hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The identity of the man who died and the ages of the children had not been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the D.C. Fire and EMS Department.
