Raleigh, N.C. — The Capitals travel from Washington, D.C., back to Raleigh on Tuesday night to face the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center, 11 nights after opening their season there with a 5-2 win over the Canes. Puck drop is set for 6:45 p.m. EDT.
Washington is 3-2 overall and 3-0-0 against Metropolitan Division opponents. Carolina comes in at 5-1-1 and riding a five-game win streak, with its only regulation loss coming in that opener against the Capitals, when Alex Tuch scored twice.
The Capitals will be shorthanded. Center Pierre-Luc Dubois, out with an illness, and defenseman Matt Roy, out with a lower-body injury, will not travel with the team. Washington moved Rasmus Sandin to long-term injured reserve, placed Roy on injured reserve and recalled veteran defenseman Justin Holl from AHL Hershey. Tuch took a maintenance day Monday but is making the trip.
Tom Wilson leads Washington in scoring with five points in five games, and Tuch leads the team with three goals. The Capitals are coming off a 5-3 home loss to the Seattle Kraken on Sunday, their first home setback of the season.
For Carolina, Seth Jarvis is out with a shoulder injury and Jordan Staal is day to day. Tuesday starts a back-to-back for Washington, which hosts the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday to open a five-game homestand.
