SAN FRANCISCO — Kristaps Porzingis remains unavailable for Golden State with no return date after missing camp and the entire exhibition slate, then resurfacing at the team building this week.
Club officials said Wednesday the 7-foot-3 big man is still dealing with the same undisclosed health situation and will stay around the roster while he recovers. He met Tuesday with general manager Mike Dunleavy and medical lead Dr. Rick Celebrini. Contents of that sit-down were kept private, and any practice or game timeline will be shared only when the staff decides it is appropriate.
Porzingis posted that he is collaborating with doctors and specialists, feels gradual improvement, and needs patience before he can feel fully healthy again. He thanked supporters and told online diagnosticians that he is already in trusted medical care, rejecting rumor-driven labels about his condition.
The Latvian signed a two-year pact worth about $40 million after Golden State acquired him midseason from Atlanta. In 15 appearances for the Bay Area club he averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 boards and 2.3 assists. He previously managed postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome during a Boston stop and has stacked injuries across a long career.
Until he is cleared, Golden State will mix Al Horford and Charles Bassey at center and can slide rookie Yaxel Lendeborg into small-ball frontcourt looks as the regular season opens next week.
