NEW YORK — Four months after the Knicks won the NBA title, the cap Jalen Brunson wore through the celebration has not seen daylight, let alone a washing machine.
Brunson told listeners on the season four premiere of Roommates Show, the podcast he hosts with teammate Josh Hart, that his championship hat is still zipped inside a bag because he is scared of what he will find. He listed the smells he expects, a mix of Champagne, sweat, cigars, food, beer and tequila from the June party.
New York finished off the Spurs on their own floor in San Antonio in the fifth game of the Finals in June, and Brunson took home the Bill Russell Trophy as Finals MVP.
The episode, released Oct. 15, set the tone for the new season with the two guards trading stories about the ring ceremony and their offseason, including Brunson's time on Saturday Night Live. It also included a segment on a new championship cap made with New Era, so the original may get to stay in its bag a while longer.
