ARLINGTON, Va. — Justin Holl is headed back to the minors. The Washington Capitals, announcing the move from Arlington on Sunday, loaned the veteran defenseman to their AHL affiliate in Hershey after a short call-up in which he scored twice.

General manager Chris Patrick made the move. Holl had been brought up on Oct. 12 and played three games for Washington. He found the net in his first game with the club on Oct. 14 at Carolina and did it again a night later against Montreal.

No blue liner in club history had ever started a Washington career with goals in back-to-back games until the 34-year-old did it. Holl pulled off the same trick with Toronto in 2017-18, which makes him the only defenseman in league history to do so for two different clubs.

Holl is no stranger to the Bears. He had already suited up for three Hershey games this season before the recall. In Toronto from 2021 to 2023 he played under current Capitals coach Spencer Carbery, then a Maple Leafs assistant.

Across nine NHL seasons he has 99 points in 408 games. Chicago took him in the second round of the 2010 draft, 54th overall, and he lifted the 2018 Calder Cup as a Toronto Marlie. Hershey is in the middle of a seven-game homestand to start its season at GIANT Center.
