WASHINGTON, D.C. — Reece Beekman made the cut in Washington. The Wizards turned the guard’s training camp deal into a two-way contract on Saturday, filling the last two-way opening on the roster before the regular season begins.
Beekman went undrafted out of Virginia, where he played four seasons, and spent his first pro year with Golden State and Brooklyn. Last season he ran the point for the Osceola Magic, the G League club tied to Orlando.
His best work for Washington came in July, when he closed his Summer League run with 13 points and 15 assists against Atlanta. The preseason was rougher. In 32 minutes of exhibition play he totaled five points, five assists and seven turnovers.
He now shares two-way status with Felix Okpara and Jamir Watkins. To make room, the Wizards released guards Trevor Keels and Alondes Williams and forward Chris Livingston, all of whom had been on Exhibit 10 deals. That kind of contract can pay a bonus of about $90,000 to a player who then logs at least 60 days with the team’s G League affiliate, so all three could land with the Capital City Go-Go.
Veteran forward Anthony Gill also survived the cuts. His camp contract, an Exhibit 9 deal, was non-guaranteed, and the team says he has claimed the 15th and final roster spot, which would make this his seventh season with Washington.
