# Torn Tendon Ends Terry McLaurin’s Season for Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Commanders lost their best receiver for the year. Terry McLaurin tore the patellar tendon in his left knee during Monday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, coach Dan Quinn said Tuesday after tests confirmed the team’s fears.

McLaurin went down in the first quarter while tangled with San Francisco corner Deommodore Lenoir on a route, grabbing his knee as he fell. He left on a cart wearing an air cast. Surgery will end his eighth NFL season, and he had already sat out one game this fall with a hamstring problem.

The two-time Pro Bowl pick, a team captain, leads Washington with 230 receiving yards and a touchdown. Since arriving as a third-round choice in 2019, he has climbed to fifth on the franchise list for career receiving yards and catches and eighth in touchdown grabs.

The loss stings for a team that fell to 1-4-1 with the 23-17 defeat and has gone three straight games without a win. Veteran Stefon Diggs now becomes the likely top option for quarterback Jayden Daniels, while first-year wideout Antonio Williams, Dyami Brown and Treylon Burks figure to see more snaps.
