WASHINGTON, D.C. — Drivers heading anywhere near the Potomac on Sunday, Oct. 25, should expect a long day of detours as the 51st Marine Corps Marathon takes over bridges and major roads in Washington and Arlington.
Cars will be barred from both the Key and Memorial bridges between 5:30 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. The gun goes off at 7:20 a.m. by the Pentagon, and the course runs through the District, including a Mile 12 stretch on Hains Point honoring fallen service members. Runners have until 1:15 p.m. to get past Mile 20 at the 14th Street Bridge, after which that crossing goes back to traffic.
On the Virginia side, the Arlington County Police Department has posted a long list of closures. Many begin around 3 a.m. and last until about 6 p.m., including stretches of Wilson Boulevard, Fort Myer Drive, N. Lynn Street and both directions of Route 110, along with several I-395 ramps near the Pentagon.
Metrorail plans to open at 5 a.m. Sunday. Riders bound for the start can use the Pentagon or Pentagon City stops, and Rosslyn serves the finish-line festival, open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
