WASHINGTON, D.C. — A top-floor condo inside a former Capitol Hill church in Washington has gone up for sale at $1.667 million, and whoever buys it will also own the old bell tower overhead.

The two-bedroom unit crowns The Sanctuary at 819 D Street NE, an 1897 Gothic Revival church turned into homes. The listing points to ceilings reaching 33 feet, a stained-glass window saved from the original sanctuary and stairs that climb into the tower, which stands over 80 feet tall. A den up top offers views in every direction.

The home has more than 2,000 finished square feet, with two full baths and a half bath. The same penthouse once sold for $1.525 million.

The project joined the church with two neighboring townhouses, adding up to 34,693 square feet of floor space carved into 30 condos, according to the architects who led the work. Their crews kept exposed brick and cast-iron columns and put the stained and leaded glass back together by hand. The building counts as a contributing structure in the Capitol Hill Historic District.
