COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dawn Staley landed another of the top prospects in the 2027 class on Friday when Jordyn Palmer, a five-star wing from Westtown School in suburban Philadelphia, announced she will play for South Carolina.

Palmer is rated among the top 10 players in her class and picked the Gamecocks over a long list that included LSU, UCLA, Penn State and Ohio State. She joins a 2027 group that already includes elite point guard GG Banks.

Her resume is long for a high school player. She has been named the top girls basketball player in Pennsylvania three times, and as a junior she averaged 23.2 points and 13.2 rebounds while helping Westtown to a 28-2 record and a spot in the state independent schools title game.

Palmer also starred for the United States at the FIBA U18 Women AmeriCup in Mexico this summer, averaging 18.8 points in about 19 minutes a game and earning tournament MVP as the Americans took gold.

With only three roster spots certain to open after this season, South Carolina kept its 2027 class small and selective. Palmer projects as a physical forward who can rebound, pass and score from the perimeter or the paint.

Staley, a North Philadelphia native, gets a player from her home region for the first time since Camden standout Nelly Perry signed with the Gamecocks.
