WASHINGTON, D.C. — Voters in Washington, D.C., can now cast ballots in person ahead of the Nov. 3 general election, with early voting under way at 25 vote centers that open at 8:30 a.m. daily and close at 7 p.m., with the last early day on Sunday, Nov. 1.

Residents may use any center no matter where they live in the city, and people who are not yet registered can sign up on the spot if they bring proof of residence, such as a District DMV-issued ID or another government document showing their name and address.

The ballot is unusually open. Mayor Muriel Bowser is not running again, so the District picks its first new mayor in 12 years, and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton’s retirement leaves the delegate seat open for the first time in 35 years. Democrat Janeese Lewis George faces independent Rhonda Hamilton and Statehood Green nominee Robert L. Gross for mayor, while Democrat Robert White meets Republican Denise Rosado and Kymone Freeman of the Statehood Green Party for delegate.

Council chair, an at-large seat, Wards 1, 3, 5 and 6 and attorney general are also on the ballot.

Sites include the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, Columbia Heights Community Center and the student center at UDC. On Election Day the Board of Elections will run 75 vote centers from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and mail ballots must carry a Nov. 3 postmark.
