CLEVELAND, Ohio — AJ Dybantsa’s first NBA game ended in a loss for the Washington Wizards, who let a double-digit lead slip away and fell 121-111 to the Cavaliers on Wednesday night at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The No. 1 overall pick had sat out Washington’s first four games after an ankle injury suffered Oct. 16 in the team’s last exhibition game. He wasted little time once he got on the floor, putting up nine points in the opening quarter and finishing as the team’s top scorer, hitting 8 of 12 shots for 19 points in 27 minutes.

Washington led 42-34 after one quarter and 69-59 at halftime, piling up points in the paint. The Wizards pushed the margin to 13 early in the third on a Dybantsa alley-oop, but Cleveland closed the period on a 25-14 run, and the game was tied at 92 going into the fourth. The Cavaliers controlled the final quarter.

Alex Sarr and Anthony Davis scored 18 points apiece. Trae Young added 14 points and eight assists, and Kyshawn George had eight points and 11 assists.

Dybantsa topped the country in scoring at 25.5 points per game in his only college season at BYU. Next up is Friday’s NBA Cup opener, when Charlotte visits Capital One Arena.
