DUBUQUE, Iowa — President Donald Trump wraps up his in-person push for Republican candidates Sunday with back-to-back rallies in Dubuque, Iowa, and Salina, Kansas, two days before voters settle control of Congress.

The two stops were briefly scrapped Thursday in favor of telephone rallies, then put back on the schedule Friday by the Republican National Committee. The White House says the president will also hold nearly 20 tele-rallies in the closing stretch. A Trump adviser said the president preferred to finish the cycle in front of live crowds.

The Kansas visit is aimed at helping GOP Sen. Roger Marshall, whose re-election contest has tightened into a toss-up amid voter worries over costs tied to the Iran war. Kansas has not elected a Democratic senator in close to 100 years.

Trump held more than 25 rallies in October, many in Republican-leaning states where the party faces stiff headwinds. Late in the month he campaigned in Rock Hill, S.C., for Sen. Darline Graham of South Carolina and the GOP Senate nominee in North Carolina, and at recent events he has told crowds they may never see rallies like his again.

Not on the ballot himself, the president has urged supporters to vote as though he were, pointing to tax cuts and border policy as gains he says Democrats would undo. He has also pitched a $5,000 payment to American adults if Republicans hold both chambers.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
