WASHINGTON, D.C. — Georgetown never looked back after grabbing the lead early, rolling past Loyola Maryland 80-58 at home in Washington on Monday night to open the men’s basketball season.

Jaland Lowe paced the Hoyas with 23 points. He made 9 of his 15 shots, including 5 of 8 from three-point range, and had 17 of his points before halftime as Georgetown built a 44-20 lead at the break.

Center Vincent Iwuchukwu finished with 21 points to go with nine rebounds, and 13 of those points came after intermission. Elmarko Jackson chipped in 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and went 3 for 3 at the free-throw line.

The Hoyas moved ahead for good inside the opening minute, and a 14-0 burst in the first half pushed the score to 39-15. After the Greyhounds strung together 14 unanswered points to get within 50-39, Georgetown answered with a 16-point run and led 72-45 with 4:35 to play.

Georgetown is now 1-0 and has won its opener for the fifth straight year. Jackson came to the Hoyas as a transfer from Kansas.

For Loyola, Leo Ricketts had a team-best 10, every one of them after halftime.
