WASHINGTON, D.C. — DC Water scheduled overnight westbound lane closures on M Street NW in Georgetown in Washington beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, so crews could finish valve repairs between 33rd and 36th streets.

Workers planned to replace one large valve and two smaller valves during an eight-hour window that was set to run through 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6. The utility said the overnight shift continues repairs that began Monday but stopped short because of unforeseen issues.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians were told to use caution near the work zones, follow posted signs and traffic-control crews, and allow extra travel time or take another route through Georgetown.

An earlier advisory covered Monday night, Nov. 2, when DC Water replaced multiple defective valves on a Georgetown water main, with westbound closures on M Street between 25th and 36th streets and a northbound lane shut at 25th and M. About 100 to 120 customers were expected to lose water for that eight-hour outage after Friday notices.

Thursday’s overnight work was framed as the next step on the same corridor so crews can keep water service reliable while limiting daytime traffic hits in Georgetown.
