The Cleveland Guardians stayed alive in the American League Division Series on Wednesday, beating the Chicago White Sox 9-3 at Rate Field and keeping Chicago from clinching at home.
The White Sox still lead the best-of-five series 2-1 and can advance to the American League Championship Series with a win in Game 4 on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET in Chicago. Parker Messick is scheduled to start for Cleveland.
Chicago took a 1-0 lead on a Kyle Teel double in the first inning before Cleveland scored four runs in the third. Jo Adell delivered the big hit, a bases-clearing triple just inside the first-base line. The Guardians recorded two triples in a postseason game for the first time in franchise history.
Seven Cleveland pitchers combined to strike out 19 batters, a postseason record for a nine-inning game. Six White Sox pitchers combined to walk 10.
Adell, Jose Ramirez and Brayan Rocchio were among four Guardians with two hits each, part of an 11-hit night, after the Guardians managed just three runs in the first two games combined. A crowd of 40,590 attended the first White Sox home playoff game since 2021.
