Three people were killed and 36 injured in attacks on two Saudi Arabian airports on Tuesday and Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said, as fighting in Yemen spilled across the border into the kingdom.

The attack on Abha International Airport, near the Yemen border, killed two women and wounded 28 people. The attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital, killed a Sudanese resident and wounded eight others, including five Saudi citizens. The aviation authority did not say which airport was hit on which day.

The authority did not say who carried out the attacks, but Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group targeted both airports with ballistic missiles and drones. He also said the Houthis attacked the international airport in Aden, Yemen, on Wednesday. Yemen’s government said no casualties were reported there.

The Saudi-led coalition said the attacks will not go unpunished and that it had struck more than 80 Houthi military sites in the Saada, Al Hudaydah, Al Jawf and Marib governorates.

The attacks mark an escalation in the renewed war between Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and the Iran-backed Houthis, who recently seized stretches of the Red Sea coast near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh issued another security alert reminding Americans in Saudi Arabia to exercise heightened vigilance.
