Kasey Kahne is coming back to NASCAR full time.
Spire Motorsports announced Wednesday that the 46-year-old, an 18-time Cup Series winner, will drive its No. 77 Chevrolet Silverado in the 2027 truck series season, starting with the Feb. 19 opener at Daytona International Speedway.
Kahne’s last full-time season ended abruptly in September 2018, when health issues made it hard for his body to keep up with the physical demands of weekly Cup races. He has raced sprint cars since then and runs his own team, Kasey Kahne Racing. He said he still could not handle a full Cup season, but believes the shorter truck schedule, with more weekends officials noted off, shorter races and more night races, will suit him.
Spire co-owner Jeff Dickerson approached him in August at the Knoxville Nationals sprint car event. Kahne said the deal is for one year for now, and he plans to run about as many sprint car races as truck races. There are 25 races on the truck schedule.
The Enumclaw, Washington, native has won five of his six career truck starts and last raced a truck in 2015. His Cup career included three Coca-Cola 600 wins and a 2017 Brickyard 400 victory. His most recent NASCAR start came in a 2025 race at Rockingham, where he started fourth and finished 14th.
