INDIANAPOLIS — Undefeated Nebraska sits at No. 1 in the first in-season top 16 released Sunday by the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball committee, an early look at how tournament seeds could shake out.

The Cornhuskers, 19-0, are followed by Pitt at 17-1, Kentucky at 15-3, Wisconsin at 13-5 and Florida at 14-2. SMU, Louisville, TCU, BYU and Oregon fill out the top 10, and Vanderbilt, Texas, UCLA, Penn State, Washington and Purdue make up spots 11 through 16.

The committee reviewed 64 teams and counted results through Saturday, weighing strength of schedule, wins over top-10 teams and head-to-head meetings. It revealed the list during Sunday’s Florida-Texas match. This is the third season the in-season reveal has included 16 teams, after years of showing only a top 10.

Wisconsin is the most notable placement, landing fourth despite five losses. All five came against ranked opponents, none ranked lower than ninth, and the Badgers played one of the toughest nonconference schedules in the country. Their only Big Ten loss was to Nebraska, and they have won eight of their last 10 matches. Texas also made the list at 9-6.

The full bracket comes out on Selection Sunday, Nov. 29. San Antonio’s Alamodome hosts the national semifinals on Dec. 17 and the title match on Dec. 20.
