VANCOUVER, B.C. — Three Carolina forwards found the net twice apiece Tuesday night as the defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes pulled away late for a 6-3 road win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
Logan Stankoven, Nikolaj Ehlers and Nicolas Deslauriers each had two goals, and Jackson Blake set up three scores. The victory lifted Carolina to 8-2-1, a day after a 3-2 loss at Calgary, while Vancouver fell to 2-8-1 with its winless run now at eight games.
Stankoven, a native of Kamloops, B.C., opened the scoring 4:44 into the game off a backhand feed from Blake. Linus Karlsson answered for Vancouver, Ehlers slipped in from below the goal line to put Carolina back ahead, and Jonathan Lekkerimaki tied it 2-2 on the power play with two seconds left in the first period.
Deslauriers, who had gone without a goal in his first 13 games with Carolina, gave the Hurricanes a 3-2 lead early in the second after Jesperi Kotkaniemi forced a turnover along the boards. Max Sasson pulled the Canucks even again later in the period, and Vancouver goalie Leevi Merilainen stopped a Sebastian Aho penalty shot to keep it tied.
The 35-year-old Deslauriers broke the deadlock at 4:07 of the third on a backhand pass from Bradly Nadeau. Ehlers scored on a breakaway at 10:21, then fed Stankoven for an empty-net goal in the final minutes.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves and is now 6-0-0 this season. Merilainen finished with 26 saves for Vancouver. Carolina has beaten the Canucks six straight times dating to October 2024, and five of the six goals Stankoven has scored this season have come in two games against Vancouver.
