WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Washington, D.C., man will spend 25 years in prison for setting two men on fire along H Street in 2020, an attack that killed one of them, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said.

D’Aundrey Scott, 32, must also serve five years of supervised release once he is freed.

Prosecutors said the attacks began early on May 13, 2020, when Scott tossed a small burning object onto a man lying on the pavement along the 1300 block of H Street. That man kicked it away and was not hurt.

Less than an hour later, in the 900 block of H Street, Scott threw a burning object onto 62-year-old Darryl Finney as he slept and doused him with gasoline. Finney walked toward Metropolitan Police Department officers who came to help him, but he died of his burns on May 15, 2020.

Scott also set fires on the porches of two homes on Morse Street that night. Police arrested him on May 19, 2020, and he has been jailed since.
