WASHINGTON, D.C. — Twenty-three giveaways proved too much for the Washington Wizards on Friday night, as the Toronto Raptors left the District with a 112-102 win. Toronto came in off a 135-92 rout of Chicago in its own opener.
Scottie Barnes led Toronto with 28 points and 14 rebounds. RJ Barrett chipped in 23, and Kawhi Leonard added 16. The visitors owned the boards, winning the offensive rebounding battle 18-6, and outscored Washington 52-32 in the paint.
Trae Young paced the Wizards with 22 points and 12 assists, and Tre Johnson finished with 20. Anthony Davis was held to nine points on 3-for-12 shooting, just his second outing for the Wizards, two nights after he put up 34 points and 12 rebounds on 11-of-20 shooting in a 128-116 opening win over Milwaukee.
Toronto built a 17-point edge in the second quarter. The Wizards answered after halftime, using a 9-0 burst to pull within one in the third, but the Raptors led 81-77 entering the final period and never let Washington draw even. The Wizards play the second half of their first back-to-back on Saturday in Chicago.
