Dr. Sidawy, a respected vascular surgeon, is a professor of surgery and holds the Lewis B. Saltz Chair at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Originally from Syria, Dr. Sidawy moved to the United States at the age of 25. He also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in healthcare management from George Washington University.
Professional Accomplishments
Dr. Sidawy is a prolific contributor to surgical literature, authoring over 200 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters. His editorial experience includes serving as the former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and founding editor of the Journal of Vascular Surgery-Venous and Lymphatic Disorders, and the Journal of Vascular Surgery-Cases. He has also edited three significant textbooks, notably the 9th and 10th editions of Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy.
His extensive leadership history comprises roles such as president of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and the Eastern Vascular Society. Dr. Sidawy was integral in the establishment of the ACS Vascular Verification Program and has recently concluded a six-year term as Chair of the VVP Steering Committee. Additionally, he received the SVS Lifetime Achievement Award in June 2025.

Dr. Sidawy has been an ACS Fellow since 1987, serving on various ACS committees and boards, including the Board of Regents. His presidency will focus on enhancing surgical care for ACS Fellows and their patients.
