The Beaver High School football team trains ahead of the season.
Beaver High School aims for its third consecutive 1A football championship as the new season approaches. The Beavers, led by head coach Jonathan Marshall, look to continue their dominance in the 1A South region. After a decisive victory last season against Kanab High School, Beaver is focused on maintaining its position as a powerhouse amidst a competitive landscape, with many key players returning despite some injuries.
Beaver High School is targeting a third consecutive 1A football championship as the upcoming season approaches. The team enters the year as the top contender in the 1A South region and is looking to continue its dominance amid a highly competitive regional landscape.
Last season, the Beaver Beavers secured a decisive victory over Kanab High School in the state championship game, winning with a score of 43-22. This win marked their second straight state title and affirmed their position as a powerhouse in Utah’s 1A classification. The team is now aiming for a three-peat, seeking their third title in a row during the upcoming season.
Under the leadership of head coach Jonathan Marshall, Beaver’s team will lean heavily on its strong returning offensive line. Key returning offensive linemen include Titan Hunter, Maverick Albrecht, Jaxson Lopshire, Mason Holgreen, and Gabe Robinson. These players are expected to provide stability and support to the team’s offensive strategies.
While many skill-position players are currently managing injuries over the summer, the team remains optimistic about their recovery ahead of the first game, scheduled against Moapa Valley.
Coach Marshall emphasizes the importance of avoiding complacency, recognizing that all regional opponents will be motivated and competitive. Despite losing some key players from last year’s roster, Beaver boasts approximately 20 returning seniors, offering experienced leadership to guide the team through their campaign.
The Kanab Cowboys, who fell to Beaver in last year’s championship, are motivated to challenge for the regional title once again. Kanab’s key returning players include quarterback Brayden Johnson and running back Hayden Gubler. The team has also added promising young talent, aiming to bolster their chances this season.
Projected to finish third in the region, Enterprise High School seeks to improve from their previous 1-3 regional record and overall 3-8 season. Their roster features seven returning starters, and coach Andy Messersmith is optimistic about blending experienced upperclassmen with underclassmen to enhance team performance.
The Parowan Rams are expected to face challenges this season, having gone winless in regional play last year. Nonetheless, they return all of their starting offensive players alongside seven defensive starters. Coach Ryan Heath highlights a focus on the growth and maturity of their upperclassmen, including quarterback Hunter Bettridge and running back Chandler Hoffmeier.
The preseason rankings, based on coaches’ votes, place Beaver, North Summit, and Kanab at the top of the regional hierarchy. Beaver finished last season with a 12-1 record, with their only loss coming in overtime against North Summit. The team’s historical success includes 15 state titles and 22 region titles, establishing a legacy of strong program performance.
During last season’s championship game, Beaver displayed resilience after being tied at multiple points. Key plays included a 66-yard fumble return for a touchdown and a 91-yard kickoff return, which helped secure their victory and demonstrate their clutch performance under pressure.
Head coach Jon Marshall brings extensive coaching experience, having led successful teams not only in football but also in girls basketball, where he has secured multiple state championships. His leadership is seen as instrumental in Beaver’s continued success.
The 2025 high school football season is set to begin shortly, with Beaver considered the favorite to claim another title amidst strong regional contenders. The team’s combination of veteran leadership, strategic coaching, and resilience positions them as the team to watch this season.
