Columbia, Maryland – The Merriweather District in Columbia kicked off its inaugural Farmers Market on June 26, with plans to run every Thursday until September 4. Located at the Merriweather Row Plaza, specifically at 10480 Little Patuxent Parkway, the market operates from 3 PM to 7 PM, offering a diverse selection of fresh produce and locally crafted goods.

Alongside the vibrant atmosphere of community shopping, the Farmers Market will feature a variety of notable vendors. Attendees can expect to find popular local brands such as Chocolate Moonshine of MD, BK Juices, Elements of Nature Urban Farm, Rogenart Bakery, and Oversea Distillery. A comprehensive list of all participating vendors is available on the Farmers Market’s official website.

In addition to serving the community with fresh local products, the Columbia Farmers Market has announced a significant $30,000 donation from the Veterans United Foundation. This funding will bolster the Access to Healthy Food (AHF) program, which aims to assist community members who are in need of nutritious food options.

The AHF program enhances access for qualifying individuals by doubling SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and/or WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) benefits at the market, up to $35. This initiative targets those particularly vulnerable, including people with disabilities, families with children under 19, and seniors over 60. The recent donation will specifically benefit seniors and individuals with disabilities through the AHF2 program.

As food costs continue to rise, the Executive Director of the Columbia Farmers Market emphasized the critical nature of this contribution, asserting the market’s commitment to providing healthy food choices for everyone in the community. Individuals interested in taking advantage of the AHF program can sign up directly at the Oasis Booth during market hours.

In addition to the Thursday Farmers Market, the Columbia Farmers Market operates a Wednesday market that resumes this summer, running from 4 PM to 7 PM through September 3 at 1769 W. Ash St. Nearly 30 vendors will participate in this midweek market, offering a robust selection of products that includes fresh produce, meats, cut flowers, and baked goods.

Both Farmers Markets are part of a continued effort to foster local agriculture and artisan businesses while simultaneously addressing food insecurity in the area. Community members are encouraged to explore the offerings and support their local vendors throughout the summer season.
