The opening is part of the resort’s commitment to delivering diverse experiences and quality amenities in a picturesque setting.
The Gamble Sands Golf Resort in Brewster, Washington, is preparing to unveil a new course designed to elevate its reputation as one of the top golf destinations in the United States. The resort’s Scarecrow Course will officially open on August 1, 2025, joining the existing courses and offering golf enthusiasts an alternative, yet equally compelling, layout with scenic views and challenging terrain.
Gamble Sands sits atop the high desert of central Washington along the Columbia River, offering stunning vistas across the landscape. Since opening in 2014, the resort’s original Gamble Sands course has garnered notable accolades, including ranking No. 2 in Washington and No. 24 among all public-access courses in the U.S.. Designed by renowned golf course architect David McLay Kidd, this layout has established Gamble Sands as a premier golf destination.
The Scarecrow Course was developed through a collaboration between Gamble Sands and Nick Schaan of DMK Golf Design. Unlike the original course, the new layout is situated on more rugged terrain, introducing a different challenge and aesthetic appeal. Its design emphasizes richer green contours, varied angles, and slopes aimed at stimulating creativity among players.
The course features a par of 71 and extends to 6,900 yards, making it suitable for seasoned golfers seeking a more demanding experience. Its playing surfaces are characterized by fast and firm conditions, primarily utilizing traditional fine fescue turf. The initial hole, a short par-4, allows players to employ a variety of risk-and-reward strategies, setting the tone for an engaging round.
Throughout the course, players are treated to unmatched scenic views, including notable features like the vineyard backdrop on the ninth hole. The layout encourages strategic play with diverse angles and slopes, fostering creative shot-making and adding depth to the golfing experience.
Complementing the courses, Gamble Sands has recently expanded its Inn, increasing the number of luxury accommodations to 77 double-king golf-view rooms. Facilities include newly upgraded food and beverage options at the clubhouse and The Barn restaurant, alongside a golf shop and practice facility.
Beyond the main courses, the resort offers several other golfing options. These include the QuickSands short course and the Cascades putting course located behind the Inn, providing varied and accessible experiences for golfers of different skill levels.
Gamble Sands is accessible from major cities, with Seattle over a three-hour drive, Wenatchee about 90 minutes, and Spokane approximately 2.5 hours away. The resort’s development stemmed from transforming former apple orchards and cornfields, turned into a distinguished destination under the stewardship of the Gebbers family.
Gamble Sands has positioned itself alongside renowned golf resorts like Bandon Dunes, Streamsong, and Pebble Beach. Its layered courses and unique terrain foster healthy debates among players about which layout provides the most desirable golfing experience, further enhancing its prestige.
The upcoming opening of the Scarecrow Course signifies Gamble Sands’ ongoing commitment to delivering diverse golfing experiences in a scenic setting. With a combination of challenging terrain, striking views, and quality amenities, the resort aims to bolster its reputation as a top-tier golf destination in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
