Chicago Fire FC players celebrate their victory against CF Montréal.
Chicago Fire FC has achieved a significant milestone with defender Jack Elliott being named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following their 2-0 victory over CF Montréal. Elliott scored his first goal for the club and contributed to a clean sheet, marking an impressive season for both him and the team. This victory secures the team’s seventh away win, showcasing their strength in the league. The upcoming match against New York Red Bulls is set to further highlight the Fire’s competitive edge.
Chicago has witnessed a notable milestone for Chicago Fire FC and its captain, Jack Elliott. Following their 2-0 victory against CF Montréal, Elliott has been named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday for Matchday 26—a recognition reserved for the league’s top performers each week.
The defender, who has been with the Chicago Fire since this season, scored his first goal for the club during this match—a decisive moment in the 54th minute. This goal marked the 11th of Elliott’s nine-year professional career. His contribution was instrumental in securing a clean sheet for the Fire, which was only the team’s third shutout of the season.
In addition to his goal, Elliott has provided the team with three goal contributions in total this season, including two assists earlier in the campaign. His defensive efforts were pivotal in limiting CF Montréal’s attacking opportunities, thereby supporting goalkeeper Chris Brady’s efforts in maintaining the team’s second shutout of the season.
Goalkeeper Chris Brady also played a key role during the match, earning his second shutout of the season. Brady achieved this by recording his third all-time shutout against CF Montréal—his previous two coming earlier this year. His sixth win of the season brings the Fire’s overall season tally to seven wins on the road, the highest since 2000 and just one short of the club record of eight away victories set in 1999.
Jack Elliott’s recognition marks his first inclusion in the MLS Team of the Matchday since joining Chicago Fire FC. Previously, Elliott was honored multiple times while playing for the Philadelphia Union, with his last appearance on the team following Matchday 7 of the 2024 season.
The victory against CF Montréal is part of an impressive season for Chicago, which has achieved its seventh road victory—its most since 2000. This performance underscores the team’s emerging strength in away competitions, nearing a club record set in 1999.
Looking ahead, Chicago Fire FC is scheduled to face the New York Red Bulls in an Eastern Conference rematch at Soldier Field, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and will include local radio coverage on WLS 890 AM and Que Buena Fire via the Uforia App, which offers Spanish-language broadcasts. Following the game, a concert featuring local artist Chance the Rapper will be held at the stadium.
The MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 26 also features notable players such as Lionel Messi, who was listed as MIA (missing in action), and Danny Musovski from the Seattle Sounders, among others. Elliott’s inclusion emphasizes the recognition of individual contributions within the league’s competitive landscape.
Overall, Jack Elliott’s recognition highlights both individual achievement and the ongoing success of Chicago Fire FC in the 2024 MLS season.
