The new Career and Technology Center at Nocona High School is designed to enhance vocational training.
The Nocona High School Career and Technology Center is set to open, providing vital career and technical education facilities for students. Funded by a recent bond measure, this new center will feature specialized classrooms, including an agriculture shop. With improved safety measures and dedicated spaces, educators anticipate significant gains in instructional time and opportunities for student success in multimedia and other fields. The facility is expected to enhance learning experiences and help students excel in state-level competitions.
The Nocona High School Career and Technology Center is scheduled to open its doors for the 2026-27 academic year, marking a significant expansion in the district’s educational facilities. This new center is part of several infrastructure improvements funded by the Nocona Independent School District’s bond measure, passed in 2023.
The Center will feature four new classrooms designed to accommodate a range of specialized career and technical education programs. Among these, a dedicated agriculture shop is also slated for construction, providing students with hands-on learning environments aligned with local industry and community needs.
One of the notable design elements is the elimination of the need for students to cross the highway to reach other parts of the campus, enhancing student safety and improving the flow of traffic and movement within the school grounds.
Rob Norman, a multimedia instructor with 20 years of experience, has been an advocate for this expansion for over eight years. His efforts stem from a desire to improve the quality of education and opportunities for students in media-related fields.
Norman expressed that the new dedicated classroom space will significantly reduce the setup and breakdown time for equipment, allowing teachers to focus more on instruction. Currently, classes last approximately 48 to 50 minutes, but the setup process often cuts effective learning time to around 20 minutes each session, limiting instructional depth.
Despite these challenges, Norman’s students have achieved notable success, including four state titles in film and animation competitions. The new facility is expected to offer students even better opportunities to excel at state-level contests and competitions.
With the dedicated space and improved setup efficiency, Norman estimates that educators will gain roughly one additional month of instructional time each year. This increase can have a positive impact on coursework, project completion, and student preparedness for competitions and careers.
Norman encourages new students entering multimedia courses to maintain an open mind, work diligently, ask questions, and bring their creativity. Many successful projects originate from students’ own ideas, underscoring the importance of fostering student innovation and initiative.
The Nocona High School Career and Technology Center is projected to be completed and operational by the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. District officials emphasize that this facility will serve as a cornerstone for expanding career and technical education, providing students with modern amenities and enhanced learning opportunities in the coming years.
