Saddlebrook Resort, located near Tampa, Florida, has announced a substantial $92 million redevelopment effort aimed at transforming its facilities into a premier destination for leisure, golf, tennis, and group events. This revitalization marks a significant investment to enhance the resort’s amenities and uphold its reputation as a leading sports and leisure venue in the region.
The project includes a comprehensive overhaul of the resort’s golf courses, which are among the most notable features of Saddlebrook. The existing two 18-hole golf courses, originally designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer, will be reconfigured into three 9-hole championship layouts, totaling 27 holes. These new courses will offer versatile playing experiences, allowing rotation of the nine-hole courses to create three distinct 18-hole configurations. This redesign aims to attract both recreational players and serious golfers seeking varied challenges.
Renowned golf course architect Rees Jones is leading the redesign efforts, which involve rebuilding green complexes, reshaping bunkers, and installing advanced irrigation and drainage systems. The new courses will conform to USGA specifications, focusing on sustainability and optimal turf conditions. The anticipated course distances will range from 6,600 to 7,005 yards, with par values of 71 or 72. One of the new nine-hole courses is expected to premiere late in 2025, with the other two projected to open in early 2026. Until then, limited play will be available on the renovated courses.
The revitalization extends to the practice facilities, which have been relocated closer to the main lobby for improved access. Covering 13 acres, these new amenities include a double-sided driving range stretching over 360 yards, two Bermuda grass putting greens featuring the TifEagle™ variety, and three short-game areas equipped with precisely designed greenside bunkers. The expanded facilities are designed to support both casual golfers and professional athletes in training, following rigorous standards to meet competitive needs.
The broader master plan for Saddlebrook, led by the EoA Group, focuses on upgrading the guest experience through modernized accommodations, including guest rooms and residential-style suites. New dining concepts and updated event spaces will enhance social and corporate gatherings. Outdoor areas and multiple pool options are also scheduled for improvement under this plan. The resort boasts over 40,000 square feet of meeting space to accommodate conferences and large events.
Saddlebrook continues to operate as a world-class sports training facility, boasting 43 tennis courts, including the Saddlebrook Tennis Academy and the Hopman Tennis Program. The facility has trained notable tennis players such as Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, and Alexander Zverev, highlighting its reputation in athlete development. Additionally, the resort offers eight pickleball courts, a modern fitness center, a spa, and plans to develop a multi-court padel complex to expand its recreational options.
Saddlebrook’s proximity to Tampa International Airport—just 30 minutes away—serves as a key advantage for visitors. The ongoing development also includes a new town center that features 465 rental apartments, 25 townhomes, and approximately 75,000 square feet of retail and office space, aiming to create a vibrant community hub within the resort grounds.
Golf operations and membership sales at Saddlebrook are managed by Troon Golf, ensuring professional oversight and service quality for members and guests. As the revitalization progresses through 2025 and into 2026, Saddlebrook aims to reinforce its status as a top-tier destination for leisure, sports, and events, attracting a diverse range of visitors from across the region and beyond.
