Increased traffic on Burns Road as Sageview High School opens, with students arriving for the first day.
The opening of Sageview High School in Pasco is set to change traffic patterns significantly, with increased vehicle congestion expected along Burns Road. The school will serve approximately 1,140 students and staff, impacting morning and afternoon traffic. Local authorities have implemented traffic management measures to ensure safety and efficiency during peak hours as construction work continues in the area, including road detours and improvements aimed at enhancing traffic flow. Community cooperation is emphasized as everyone adjusts to these new patterns.
Pasco is experiencing notable changes in traffic patterns with the opening of Sageview High School on August 26, 2025, coinciding with the first week of the new school year in the Tri-Cities area. The new school, located along Burns Road in West Pasco, is expected to significantly impact local traffic as students, staff, and parents navigate the area during peak morning and afternoon hours.
Sageview High School will serve approximately 1,140 students in its inaugural year, focusing on freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, with no seniors attending this fall. The school staffing includes around 100 teachers and support staff dedicated to providing education and student services. The school’s regular hours are from 7:44 a.m. to 2:37 p.m., with early release on Thursdays at 1:50 p.m.. On September 8, 2025, it will begin welcoming 10th and 11th graders, expanding its student body.
The opening coincides with increased vehicle congestion along Burns Road, especially during morning and afternoon peak periods. Morning traffic peaks between 7:00 a.m. and 7:45 a.m., as parents drop off students, while the afternoon sees a surge in vehicles traveling after 2:30 p.m..
Drivers are advised to drop off and pick up students at the front of the school, with guidance to locate the flagpole for proper drop-off procedures. Several exits from the school’s front parking lot are available to help manage vehicle flow. School security and administrators will assist in directing traffic to ensure safety and efficiency.
Parking for students is designated in the northeast parking lot. Students should enter the school from the north side of the building. Drivers are urged to keep bus drop-off areas clear, adhere to traffic lights, watch for crosswalks, and obey signs designed to promote safety for all pedestrians.
Due to ongoing construction, Broadmoor Boulevard will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily from August 25 through August 27, with detours in place to guide drivers around the work zones. These road closures are part of wider improvements in the area, including multiple traffic signals and roadway enhancements.
Pasco has recently built out the north half of Burns Road and installed new traffic signals at the intersections of Burns Road with Roads 60 and 64. Burns Road also intersects with Road 68, which records an average of approximately 49,500 vehicles daily — making it the busiest regional corridor.
Construction is underway to complete the missing link of Burns Road between Convention Drive and Road 68, which aims to improve connectivity and traffic flow. A priority project has been identified to install a traffic signal at Burns Road and Road 68, to help accommodate the area’s rapid growth and increasing vehicle volumes.
To better monitor and manage traffic, the area is installing the Miovision detection system, which uses cameras and sensors to assess real-time conditions and adjust traffic signals accordingly. The city encourages community members to report traffic trouble spots via an online Transportation Request Form, allowing officials to respond and address specific issues.
With new traffic patterns emerging and ongoing construction, residents and drivers are advised to remain patient and plan for additional travel time during peak periods. Extra caution is recommended around student crosswalks, school entrances, and bus pick-up zones to ensure safety for students and pedestrians.
As Pasco begins its new school year with the opening of Sageview High School, local authorities emphasize cooperation and patience from drivers. The combined efforts of infrastructure investments, traffic system upgrades, and community cooperation aim to support safer and smoother travel during this busy transitional period.
