WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Commanders made it official Wednesday as they returned from their bye week: wide receiver Terry McLaurin is on injured reserve, and his season is over.
Coach Dan Quinn said McLaurin tore his patellar tendon in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. The team had kept him on the active roster through the off week before making the move, and his focus now shifts to getting back for 2027.
A veteran receiver who has appeared in one game this season, was promoted from the practice squad to take the open roster spot. Linebacker Kyle Kennard, the 2024 SEC Defensive Player of the Year at South Carolina, was signed to the practice squad in his place.
There was better news on the defensive line. Tackle Jer’Zhan Newton, a second-round pick in 2024 who tore a pectoral muscle in training camp, was cleared to return to practice. That starts a 21-day window for Washington to add him to the active roster, or he reverts to injured reserve for the rest of the year.
The Commanders host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.
