COLUMBUS, Ohio — D.C. United left Ohio empty-handed on Saturday, Oct. 31, losing 3-0 to the Columbus Crew at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field.
The visitors had a chance to strike first. In the 24th minute Keisuke Kurokawa stepped up for a penalty, but his shot slid wide of the post as Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte dove the other way.
Columbus made it count instead. Captain Sean Zawadzki headed in a Dylan Chambost free kick, and Anass Zaroury bent a shot into the top corner in the 41st minute for a two-goal halftime edge. Chambost set up both.
The third goal came in the 61st minute, when the ball glanced off D.C. United forward Kimoto Nono and past goalkeeper Alex Bono for an own goal under pressure from Santiago Rodriguez. Schulte made four saves for his eighth clean sheet of the year.
The win moved Columbus to 13-15-5 and 44 points, eighth in the Eastern Conference with one game left on Nov. 7 at Chicago.
