WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two new Capitals forwards did the heavy lifting Wednesday night at Capital One Arena in Washington. Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou each found the net twice in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers that wrapped up a five-game homestand at 4-1-0.
Washington came into the night at 6-4-0 having won three of its previous four, and it now sits at 7-4-0. Dylan Strome, who centers the Tuch and Kyrou line, set up three goals. Logan Thompson stopped 23 shots.
Tuch struck less than two minutes in, cashing a rebound of a shot by defenseman Jack St. Ivany, who was playing his first game for Washington after being claimed off waivers from Winnipeg. Philadelphia evened it in the second, but Kyrou scored on the power play and Aliaksei Protas tipped in a point shot for a 3-1 lead after two periods.
The Flyers got within one early in the third. Kyrou answered with his second goal at 12:51, and Tuch put the game away with an empty-net goal at 17:36.
Philadelphia dropped to 3-8-4 with its third loss in a row. Alex Ovechkin entered the game one assist away from tying Nicklas Backstrom for the most assists in franchise history, with Backstrom at 762.
