MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Fifty-seven years after the franchise was born, Milwaukee gets its first World Series parade on Friday.
The Brewers will roll through downtown starting at 10 a.m. Central time from the corner of Vel R. Phillips and Wisconsin avenues, heading east on Wisconsin Avenue toward the lake. The route bends north for a pass by the Bob Uecker mural at Jackson and Mason streets before finishing at Henry Maier Festival Park, the Summerfest grounds.
Downtown streets begin closing at 7 a.m. The parade is free, and spots along the route are first come, first served.
A ticketed rally at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater caps the day. Those seats went fast after going on sale Thursday afternoon, but fans do not need one to get onto the festival grounds, where the parade and the speeches will be shown on screens. The club also plans live music, former players, a limited-edition rally towel and a screening of the documentary on the late broadcaster Bob Uecker.
The team is running $5 shuttles from American Family Field, where parking is free. Buses leave starting at 7 a.m., with the last one out at 11:30 a.m., and the money goes to the Brewers Community Foundation.
Milwaukee Public Schools and the Wauwatosa district called off classes for the day so students can join in. Shorewood schools and UW-Milwaukee are holding classes as usual.
The Brewers clinched the title with a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay in Game 5. The franchise began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 and moved to Milwaukee for the 1970 season. Its only earlier World Series trip came in 1982, a seven-game loss to St. Louis.
Fans who cannot be there in person can stream the parade free on the team website.
