OCEANSIDE, Calif. — Yuki Kawamura is back in the G League and says his goal has not changed. The Japanese guard told reporters Tuesday that he wants a full NBA contract and a defined role on an NBA roster.

Kawamura, 25, spent the preseason with the Los Angeles Clippers on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deal, scoring 10 points in a preseason game against Toronto, before the club waived him on Oct. 12. He then joined the San Diego Clippers, the team’s G League affiliate.

San Diego opens its season at home Friday, Nov. 6, against the Valley Suns.

Kawamura, who stands about 5-foot-7, broke into the NBA with Memphis in 2024-25 on a two-way contract and spent last season with Chicago on another two-way deal. He played 18 games for the Bulls, putting up 3.4 points and 2.6 assists per game in a little under 11 minutes. In 11 G League games last season he averaged 18.7 points and 11 assists.

He said the San Diego coaches have pushed him to use his instincts to create steals, something he sees as key to sticking in the NBA, and that he wants to be a player who can swing momentum with a steal or a no-look pass at any level.

Kawamura, from Yamaguchi Prefecture, also played for Japan at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
