WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two women licensed as special police officers in Washington are among five people indicted in what federal prosecutors call a ring that moved about 40 guns from North Carolina into D.C. and other places.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, led by Jeanine Pirro, announced the 13-count case Wednesday. ATF agents made the arrests a day earlier, picking up four in Maryland and a fifth in Raleigh.
Charged are Arnise Lecresha Young, 33; Antonique Whitaker, 34; Christian Atkinson, 30; and two men identified as Agee, 40, and Harris, 38. All five face a conspiracy count tied to gun trafficking, and some are also accused of lying to licensed gun dealers.
Young and Whitaker work as private contract security, not as city police. Pirro said Whitaker was a contract security officer at D.C. Public Schools between 2022 and 2024.
Prosecutors say the guns went to D.C., Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and even Grenada through straw purchases, and that some later turned up at crime scenes involving drugs, robberies and a homicide.
Trafficking counts carry up to 15 years in federal prison, and false-statement counts up to 10. The charges are allegations, and each defendant is presumed innocent.
