WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., have charged 15 men in a 12-count superseding indictment that accuses them of running a drug pipeline feeding methamphetamine and GBL into the city and other East Coast markets.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, which is prosecuting the case, announced the charges Wednesday. Court papers say the network has been active since at least November 2022, getting meth from California and shipping GBL in from South Korea, then selling the two together as party drugs. Its reach ran through New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and D.C., and prosecutors say it was trying to grow into Chicago, Florida and Southern California.
GBL is a solvent that the body turns into GHB, a drug linked to sexual assaults. Law enforcement in South Korea seized about 1.5 metric tons of it at the source.
