WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Commanders spent Sunday off the field and still lost ground in the NFC East, sitting idle at 1-4-1 during their bye week while a division rival kept winning.
The New York Giants beat the Houston Texans 27-21 in overtime, moving to 4-2-1 and opening a 2.5-game lead on Washington. A Houston win would have cut that gap to 1.5 games.
The Texans forced the extra period when C.J. Stroud found Xavier Hutchinson for a tying touchdown with 52 seconds left. Houston then went three-and-out, and New York ended it in two plays: a 42-yard run by Cam Skattebo and a 30-yard touchdown run by Devin Singletary.
The rest of the division meets Monday night, when Dallas plays Philadelphia.
Washington returns to Northwest Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 1, for an 8:20 p.m. home game against the Eagles, the first game after the off week. The Los Angeles Rams visit the following Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m.
