WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Wizards clamped down on Charlotte after a slow start and pulled away for a 95-79 win over the Hornets on Friday night, the first night of NBA Cup games, as top draft pick AJ Dybantsa scored 17 points in his first home game.

Trae Young led Washington with 21 points to go with nine assists and seven rebounds. Anthony Davis added 25 points and 13 rebounds, and the Wizards allowed only 13 points in the third quarter.

Dybantsa, 19, missed the start of the season with an ankle injury. He made his NBA debut Wednesday at Cleveland, scoring 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting in 28 minutes in a loss that dropped Washington to 2-3. On Friday the home crowd chanted MVP after he switched hands on a drive and banked in a shot while being fouled.
