MIAMI, Fla. — Antonio Brown, the former star NFL receiver, entered a guilty plea to aggravated assault with a firearm on Friday in a Miami-Dade courtroom and received three years of probation, ending a case that started as an attempted murder charge.
The case was brought by the state attorney’s office. Prosecutors alleged that Brown, 38, grabbed a guard’s handgun outside a celebrity boxing event on May 16, 2025, and fired two shots at a man he had fought with earlier, with one round grazing the man’s neck.
Under the terms of probation, Brown may not have a firearm, must have no contact with the man, must undergo a psychological evaluation and must attend counseling. The agreement keeps him out of prison and avoids a criminal conviction.
Brown had pleaded not guilty after he was returned from Dubai to face the original charge, saying he acted in self-defense.
Brown ranked among the league’s top receivers from 2011 to 2018, earning seven all-star selections in that span. His last NFL season was 2021 with Tampa Bay, which ended when he left the field in the middle of a game.
