NEW YORK — The New York Knicks moved quickly Friday to smooth things over with one of their most famous fans after two of their own players suggested Taylor Swift was not the real deal.

Reserve guards Tyler Kolek and Miles McBride were asked during an NBA 2K League video game segment on Thursday which famous courtside fan struck them as the most fake. Kolek pointed to Swift, calling her appearances at Knicks games a bit performative and saying he had not seen her at other games. McBride went along with the answer, and Kolek acknowledged her fans would not be happy with him.

The team responded with a statement from a spokesperson saying Swift has followed the Knicks for many years, has deep ties to Madison Square Garden, and that the organization is grateful for her support.

As better examples of committed fans, McBride offered actor Ben Stiller and comedian Tracy Morgan.

Swift, who grew up in Pennsylvania, has rooted for the Knicks since moving to New York more than a decade ago. She sat courtside for Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals, a game New York won after rallying from 29 points down on the way to the title, and she also attended an Eastern Conference finals game in Cleveland with her husband, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

It is not the first time her loyalty to the team has been doubted. A broadcaster questioned it in June after the Finals appearance and later apologized.
