WASHINGTON, D.C. — Alex Tuch finished what he started Saturday night, Oct. 24, scoring the overtime winner as the Washington Capitals came back to beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Buffalo jumped out early on first-period goals by Jack Quinn and Josh Doan. Tuch cut the lead in half with a backhander before the period ended.
Dylan Strome took over in the second, scoring twice to put Washington ahead 3-2. Noah Ostlund answered for the Sabres early in the third to force the extra session, where Tuch ended it on a snap shot set up by Strome and Jakob Chychrun.
Jordan Kyrou had two assists for Washington. The win moves the Capitals to 6-4-0 and 5-2-0 at home, while Buffalo falls to 4-4-3.
Washington also added depth on the blue line earlier Saturday, picking up defenseman Jack St. Ivany on waivers from Winnipeg. The 27-year-old has played 59 NHL games with the Jets and Penguins and is still chasing his first goal.
