WASHINGTON, D.C. — Georgetown men’s soccer, based in Washington, D.C., picked up both of the BIG EAST’s top weekly player awards Monday after the Hoyas swept a two-game road trip.
Senior midfielder Matthew Van Horn was named offensive player of the week. He set up a goal in the 6-1 rout of nationally ranked Pitt, then scored twice himself in a 2-0 league win at Villanova, finishing with five points on six shots. Van Horn now leads the Hoyas with nine goals and eight assists, good for 26 points.
Eric Howard, a senior from Redmond, Washington, earned defensive player of the week for the second straight week. Georgetown gave up only one goal in 180 minutes, and Howard assisted on both goals in the Villanova shutout. It is the third weekly award of his career.
Georgetown closes its regular season at home Friday, when No. 8 Creighton visits Shaw Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
