INGLEWOOD, Calif. — After seven years of helping shape the Super Bowl halftime show from behind the scenes, Jay-Z is taking the stage himself.
League officials, together with Apple Music and Roc Nation, revealed Monday night that the rapper and entrepreneur will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show on Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium. Roc Nation will executive produce the broadcast of the show.
The pick closes a loop that began in 2019, when Roc Nation signed on as the league’s entertainment adviser. Jay-Z said at the time that performing was not part of the deal, while Commissioner Roger Goodell has said he hoped the artist would perform once he felt ready.
The timing lines up with a big year for the Brooklyn native. His 2026 run marking 30 years since his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, included three sold-out nights at Yankee Stadium plus sellouts in London and Paris, and it wrapped up at SoFi Stadium the weekend before the announcement.
Jay-Z, whose given name is Shawn Carter, owns 25 Grammy Awards and became the first rapper to enter the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His wife, Beyonce, has performed at two Super Bowls, which is already fueling talk about possible guests in February.
