TORONTO, Ontario — D.C. United will finish the season without a playoff berth after Toronto FC rallied for a 2-1 win Wednesday night at BMO Field, a loss that left the Washington club at 7-13-12.
Midfielder Andre Dozzell gave D.C. United a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute, scoring his first MLS goal with a low left-footed finish after a pass from defender Silvan Hefti.
That lead held into the second half until the 64th minute, when Jonathan Osorio finished from close range after a corner. The tying goal deflected in off Osorio and was first ruled out for offside before a video review let it stand.
Josh Sargent won it in the 86th minute, tapping in a rebound after a shot by Theo Corbeanu hit the post. It was his ninth goal of the season. Captain Lucas Bartlett had a header blocked in stoppage time as D.C. United chased an equalizer.
Sean Johnson started in goal for D.C. United, which fell to 2-6-8 on the road this season. Toronto moved to 9-11-12. Next up for D.C. United is a Saturday trip to Columbus.
