TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday flatly denied that he is preparing a second campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, saying on social media that he has not approached anyone about running for any office.
DeSantis called a published report on his plans fabricated and faulted it for leaning on unnamed sources, describing it as an effort to draw clicks. The report had said he contacted at least one national political consultant about a possible campaign.
The Republican governor sought the 2024 nomination before ending his bid, and he is barred by term limits from seeking another term. He leaves the governor’s office in January.
His comments came days after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, a result that has set off early jockeying over the direction of the party.
On Wednesday, the day after the vote, DeSantis argued that Democrats had not won a mandate to pursue what he called their left-wing agenda. He kept pressing his denial Friday in replies to other users on social media, including one who suggested consultants might be using his name to draw attention.
