ATLANTA, Ga. — The Atlanta Dream host Golden State in Game 6 of the WNBA Finals on Thursday, with a 12:30 p.m. ET start at State Farm Arena, a workday tipoff the team’s owners have publicly blamed on the league.
In a letter to fans released Tuesday, the ownership group said it flagged clashes with NBA dates at the downtown arena about two months ago, once the league set its playoff calendar, and kept raising them as the Dream advanced. The owners wrote that the warnings were not treated with enough seriousness.
The league moved Game 6 out of its original 8 p.m. slot on Monday so the series could stay at State Farm Arena, where the Atlanta Hawks face the Cleveland Cavaliers at 8 p.m. the same night.
The owners chose the Hawks’ building, with room for about 17,000, over the Dream’s regular home, Gateway Center Arena in College Park, which seats roughly 3,500. They thanked the Hawks and arena staff for reshuffling their calendar three times to fit Finals games, and the Dream filled State Farm Arena for Game 3.
