SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Spain — CD Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel has died, the Spanish club announced Tuesday, a day after he was badly hurt in a collision during a match against FC Andorra.

De Miguel went down on Monday at Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium after a hard hit to the chest in a challenge with the Andorra goalkeeper as both went for the ball. Play was stopped for about 10 minutes before he was taken to the hospital, and the match was called off in the 108th minute. He had been at Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria since Monday night.

The game had been pushed back a day from Sunday because of a heavy rain alert on the island. The score was 2-2 when the collision happened.

Spain’s national soccer federation and LaLiga both issued statements of condolence to his family and to the club, and FC Andorra also sent its sympathy.
