WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than six months after two boys were gunned down outside a Northeast Washington, D.C., convenience store, police have arrested two men and charged them with murder.
Antonio Terry, 18, was taken into custody Sunday, Oct. 25. The District’s U.S. Attorney’s Office charged him with first-degree murder while armed. He remains jailed with no bond after a judge found probable cause, and his next hearing is Nov. 9. Officers arrested a second suspect, Markell Woodings, 20, on Monday, Metropolitan Police Department Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll said.
Tyale Coates, 14, and Mhilo Young, 12, died on the afternoon of April 14 outside the Circle 7 Express on Kenilworth Avenue NE. According to investigators, three masked gunmen got out of a stolen black Honda, sprayed the parking lot with gunfire and sped away.
Carroll said the boys appear to have been targeted over the neighborhood they came from rather than anything they did, the result of a feud between two communities. He credited DNA recovered from shell casings, along with social media messages among the suspects, for building the case.
